Hampton Inn Ft Lauderdale Airport North, Fort Lauderdale Updated 2024 Prices

hampton inn airport north cruise port

Lauderdale Airport North Cruise Port is a 109-room value hotel. The location isn’t the most desirable, with a shopping center across the street and a large parking lot surrounding the grounds; nothing much is within walking distance. The hotel has an outdoor swimming pool, but no on-site restaurant, although there is a gift shop with snacks. There is a free buffet-style breakfast every morning. The rooms are basic but clean, with a cookie-cutter style that could belong in any of the chain’s hotels nationwide.

Carnival Horizon Cruise Ship Review First-hand Expert Review

carnival cruise review

So for me to base it just on my gut opinion would hardly be fair, or very interesting either. The ship very nice and clean, the food is ok, I love BBQ, Guy burger, Big Chicken. The staffs are unfriendly, special the lady who at Cloud Spa 9 at deck #6 her name is Anita, she so rude and so mean. Departure Ports

While better than the main dining room, both restaurants had rather simple menus and lackluster food preparation, especially when compared to other cruise lines. Finally, there were deck parties on the lido, movies on the big screen, the new Evolution Dance Party, and plenty of other options to keep cruisers busy day and night. Honestly, we had a hard time trying to fit everything into just 6 days. Many of the bars and lounges did not have waitstaff, so cruisers did need to order at the bar itself. Shockingly, even on sea days, none of the pools felt overly crowded during this holiday week sailing. Find out if Carnival's newest ship is right for you with our honest Carnival Celebration cruise ship scorecard review.

Passport Services

On Carnival ships in Australia, smoking is only allowed in designated outdoor areas. It's a fun-at-sea focus that has gone to new levels over the past two years with the debut of Mardi Gras and Carnival Celebration, each of which has — get this — a roller coaster on the top deck. At 800 feet in length, these aren't the biggest roller coasters ever. However, they're real ones — the first ever on a cruise ship.

VIPF Club

While this option adds variety to the dining lineup, we are glad that it’s complimentary because we don’t see ourselves ever paying to dine here. Of note, all visits are free on Jubilee; only the first visit is free on Mardi Gras and Celebration, with subsequent visits $8 each. I ordered the lettuce wraps as an appetizer, and Don did the spring rolls and potstickers. For entrees, Don ordered the sweet & sour shrimp and I did the kung pao chicken and hakka noodles. All of the options were pretty average “Chinese take-out” versions. There are several hotels located on the island which are all a short drive from the cruise terminal.

The desk area had only two U.S.-style 110V plugs and a European-style 220V plug. If you need more outlets, plan to pack a power strip (just not one with a surge protector, as they're banned on ships). The ship's age is starting to show, with a few nicks and marks here and there and visible rust spots on the exterior. The need for a fresh coat of paint was more prominent when we were docked beside two newer Royal Caribbean ships in Nassau — so much so that the comedian referenced it in his show that night. It didn't detract from our cruise, but those seeking a new shiny ship should look elsewhere.

Which Carnival Cruise Ship Has the Best Pools?

These spaces are certainly unique, but almost all are under-sized for a vessel carrying this many passengers. And while that attempt keeps things small – human, even – it creates problems as the ship’s most popular spaces fill up early and stay that way. With Carnival Celebration, Carnival has started to bring more interesting décor in public spaces back, in a more modern (and perhaps accessible) way.

The ship has 82 accessible staterooms with bathrooms with roll-in showers, wider doors and, where needed, ramps, in numerous categories. Corridors are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs and scooters and there are 22 lifts providing vertical access between Decks 3 (for the medical center and disembarkation) and 18. Most staff we encountered were seemingly overworked, unduly burdened and unhappy, with Carnival Celebration’s food service staff appearing unusually affected. Design challenges aside, there’s no denying that Carnival Celebration is a total win for multigenerational families from all walks of life looking to cruise together. Families and diversity have always been part of Carnival’s DNA, and Carnival Celebration takes that to the next level.

Never again Carnival! Worst cruising experience.

Maybe you'll drink a little too much, eat a little too much, play a little too much — but in the end, you'll say it was your best trip ever. In recent years, Carnival also has deployed two of its vessels to Australia to operate voyages from Sydney and Brisbane. In a departure from Carnival's American-focused business model, the Australia sailings are aimed mostly at the local Australian market, though they are open to American travelers.

It’s helped by the popular Lanai Promenade that wraps around the ship on the lower deck, which offers a bit of respite from all the fun of the rest of the ship. It’s well maintained and offers a good mix of itineraries across the Caribbean and Central America from Texas. But it’s a testament to how good the experience is that it still ranks so highly despite the wear and tear.

They typically have one or two big waterslides (sometimes three!), a play zone with interactive water features and a large, continuously filling dump bucket that periodically soaks everybody within range. Carnival Panorama also houses Carnival's first cooking classroom. On one of Carnival's newest ships, Carnival Panorama, there's no RedFrog Pub, but the Smokehouse Brewhouse has a stage that's home to live music nightly and some of the ship's karaoke sessions. When it comes to raucous, though, nothing on Carnival ships quite compares to the frequent karaoke nights on board. Sometimes held in a secondary lounge or a shipboard pub, karaoke on Carnival draws a big crowd. Passengers come prepared with rehearsed songs and sometimes even their own guitars.

Unlike newer Carnival ships with a full promenade that provides access to restaurants and bars, Sunshine has the more traditional promenade with shuffleboard and some outdoor seating. A fun component of this bar is the screens above the bar that carousel through photos the bartenders have taken of RedFrog Pub patrons. The Pub didn't seem to be the hub for activities as I've seen on other vessels, probably because karaoke, live music and trivia games were held just outside the door in the Ocean Plaza. Smoking can be a divisive issue on cruise ships, and it's banned nearly everywhere on board. However, it's permitted in the casino, which would be fine if I didn't have to pass through the casino to get to certain parts of the ship. But there was no way to avoid the smoky areas if I needed to get to the Liquid Lounge theater from the Ocean Plaza.

In a nod to Carnival’s history, cruisers will find plenty of objects onboard that have come from past ships. These include the original 1934 Rolls Royce Saloon car that sailed aboard Carnival Ecstasy until that ship was taken out of service, which now finds a home next to the entrance to the Golden Jubilee Bar. That’s probably why it’s one of the least popular ships, but it still gets mostly positive reviews.

Our cabin was an aft (back of the ship) balcony cabin on Deck 5. I'd never stayed in an aft cabin, so I looked forward to having uninterrupted ocean views over the ship's wake. I particularly enjoyed our view as we plied through rough waters during a storm. It was a fantastic reminder of the strength and endurance of cruise ships.

As well as the Waterworks Aqua Park, there’s also the Tides Pool with whirlpool, the relaxed Summer Landing pool, the Beach Pool with beach theming, and the exclusive Havana and Loft 19 pools. To be clear, Mardi Gras still averages a very respectable 3.78 out of 5, but she has fallen down the rankings hard. Carnival Horizon should be praised for its onboard technologies and amazing features, but it is missing some of the really exciting features that would debut on the Excel Class not long after.

Cruises to Venice, Italy

Monfalcone is northeast of Venice on the wayto Trieste (see below), about an hour and a half from Venice by bus, car, ortrain. The town is mostly known for shipbuilding and other heavy industries, butMSC Cruises occasionally uses Monfalcone as a turnaround port. Being one of the more popular activities in Venice, there are a host of gondola tours available, from private to small group tours.

With barely any walkways beside the canal, the best way to view it and absorb the colorful atmosphere is to take to the water. The largest canal in Venice, the 4-kilometer (1.5 mile) Grand Canal cuts through the city of Venice and houses some of the city’s most beautiful buildings. Spanning the Grand Canal, Rialto Bridge is the oldest and most renowned bridge in the city. Designed by Antonio da Ponte, it features a single stone arch that spans the Grand Canal, supported by two inclined ramps on either side.

But, over the centuries, Venice has declined a bit and now has less than half the population it had at its peak. What remains of its former grandeur -- the crumbling palaces, the sumptuous art in its museums and churches, the fantastic rituals of Carnevale -- makes Venice a living tribute to the past. While you can enjoy more typical Italian pasta and pizza offerings throughout Verona's old town, you also owe it to yourself to try the city's most famous dish, risotto con tastasal. Flavored and thickened with tastasal — a minced pork heavily seasoned with salt and pepper — this hearty rice dish will make you fall in love with Verona. The first thing you'll notice about Burano as you're walking along its canals is how colorful the houses are here.

Come for the shopping, meet local artisans, and stay for a casual lunch at one of the island’s many quaint restaurants. The Rialto Bridge crosses the Grand Canal, and it’s one of Venice’s most enduring landmark sights. Built in the 16th century, the bridge is a magical place where you’ll truly feel like you’re living in an Italian postcard. Bologna, the capital of the Emilia-Romagna region, is considered the gastronomic center of Italy. It’s here that you’ll find some of the world’s best wines, prosciutto, cheese, and balsamic vinegar.

The train station is located on the mainland side of Venice, and you can reach it by taking a water taxi or vaporetto (water bus) from the port area. The journey takes 8 minutes and will drop you at Venice Piazzale Roma. "When I went to Venice, my dream became my address," wrote Lord Byron, just one of many famous figures who found a haven in this fantasy city. This enchanted land was built on stilts, set into the water by ancient Venetians seeking refuge from the harsh realities of landlocked life.

Best Shore Excursions from the Venice Cruise Port

If you have a morning arrival, consider taking a trip out to one of the nearby islands for a peaceful start to your day before returning to explore Venice itself. This industrial area was once home to large factories but has since been transformed into an eco-industrial park with green spaces and sustainable businesses. Cruise ships to Venice now must dock in Marghera industrial port, on the mainland, across the lagoon from Venice.

There are few better cities to simply get lost in, particularly if you want to escape the tourist hordes that clog the main arteries around San Marco and the Rialto Bridge. Relax in a gondola, as you’re rowed along the Grand Canal and under the stone-arch Rialto Bridge. During high tide season, which runs from October to April, visitors may encounter more challenges when trying to access the Venice cruise terminal.

Popular amongst many cruise lines including Crystal, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Regent Seven Seas Cruises. English is not widely spoken (or comprehended), aside from tourist-oriented hotels, restaurants and shops. There's absolutely no reason to rent a car, as Venice doesn't permit them. However, if you are planning an adventure on the mainland, you can rent from major agencies like Hertz and Avis. Your feet -- Venice is a walking city, full of labyrinthian streets and tons of bridges (usually requiring steps up and down again), so wear your most comfortable shoes. Venice once ruled the Mediterranean as a shipping power, amassing vast wealth and producing some of Europe's greatest artistic and cultural treasures.

Stroll the medieval town’s many photogenic porticoes until you arrive at Piazza Maggiore, the huge and charming public square where you can stop for a gelato or an espresso and people watch. Riverboats are often given berth at a third spot, near the Bienniele, adjacent to the Giardini (public gardens), and a pleasant 10-minute stroll to San Marco. The local currency is the euro and ATM machines, which are plentiful, offer the best exchange rates. There are plenty of interesting places to stop along the way and it's pleasant and safe to walk back to the ship at night.

Set out for an unforgettable adventure with picturesque views found only in Italy. The reason for closing Venice to cruise ships is to preserve the Venetian lagoon. Venice had been put on the UNESCO World Heritage’s blacklist as a Heritage Site in danger and the large numbers of cruise ships that visit the fragile city were listed as part of the reason for this. If your cruise liner doesn’t offer a shuttle service to Venice Cruise Port, Marghera Port (where your cruise ship will be based) is too far away from Venice for you to easily walk into the city. Although your cruise ship will dock at Marghera industrial port, shuttle services will likely be provided by your cruise liner from the passenger terminals to the official Venice Cruise Port.

For a cozy dining experience in the heart of Venice’s historic district, head to Osteria Ae Cravate. This rustic restaurant offers a variety of seafood dishes made with fresh ingredients sourced from the nearby Rialto market, as well as an extensive selection of local wines. Piazza San Marco, also known as St. Mark’s Square, is one of Venice’s most famous landmarks and a must-visit destination for any visitor to the city. The square is home to several stunning buildings, including the Basilica di San Marco and the Doge’s Palace.

Cruise Lines that Visit Norfolk

As port of call (on transit itineraries), the Port's business expands each year. Among the large cruise shipping companies visiting Norfolk VA are AIDA, TUI, Princess, NCL-Norwegian, plus several luxury lines with smaller vessels (like Silversea, RSSC-Regent, Oceania, ACL-American Cruise Lines). As an exclusive CCL-Carnival homeport (since 2002), Norfolk's main competitors are the homeports Baltimore MD and Charleston SC (another CCL-exclusive departure port in the USA). Currently, Norfolk's cruise business generates ~USD 153 million annually (in direct spending by cruise companies and passengers/crew), ~USD 170 million in Virginia state wages, and supports ~2800 local jobs. The huge Carnival "fun ships" offer cruises to the Bahamas, Bermuda, Caribbean and Spain. Popular destinations out of Norfolk include cruises to the Bahamas and Bermuda.

Norfolk's container terminal is divided into 3 sections - South (4 berths, area size 272 acres / 1,1 km2), North (2 berths, area 245 acres / 1 km2), and Central (50 acres / 0,2 km2). Sometimes, but not always, the cheapest cruise deal is a Last Minute Cruise. You won't get a wide selection of stateroom categories or a chance to select your stateroom location but if your schedule is flexible you just might find a cheap cruise price on a last minute cruise.

It is suggested to drop luggage off at the terminal prior to parking.

Traffic around the port can get hairy on cruise ship turnaround days, especially if there's a festival on at the adjacent Town Point Park. Plan accordingly, and consider getting dropped off or picked up a short walk from the terminal. The Half Moone Cruise and Celebration Center does not have any amenities worth noting.

The Port is adjacent to highways 64 and 564, and via Terminal Blvd to Hampton Blvd (Norfolk City), with additional access to roads 17 and 58.

The structure of the bridge is so heavy that pieces will need to be cut so that they can be handled by cranes. Shore excursions will focus on day trips to historical places, such as the living museums of Colonial Williamsburg and the Jamestown Settlement, and the Revolutionary War battlefields at Jamestown. While these attractions are certainly worthwhile, you don't need to head out of Norfolk or even take a tour to have a fun day in port.

Norfolk, a city with a storied maritime history, is located at the junction of the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean in southeastern Virginia. Its cruise terminal is located in the city center, so you can step off your ship and walk right into downtown or over to some of its waterfront attractions.
